Și iată că un înger al Domnului s-a înfățișat înaintea lor, și slava Domnului a strălucit împrejurul lor. Ei s-au înfricoșat foarte tare. Dar îngerul le-a zis: "Nu vă temeți, căci vă aduc o veste bună, care va fi o mare bucurie pentru tot norodul: astăzi, în cetatea lui David, vi s-a născut un Mântuitor, care este Hristos, Domnul." (Luca 2:9-11)

"Nu vă înspăimântați! Căutați pe Isus din Nazaret, care a fost răstignit: a înviat, nu este aici; iată locul unde Îl puseseră. Dar duceți-vă de spuneți ucenicilor Lui și lui Petru, că merge înaintea voastră în Galileea: acolo Îl veți vedea, cum v-a spus El." (Marcu 16:6-7)

Când vă gândiți la cântările de tabără, care vă vin în minte? Vă amintiți cântările pe care le-ați învățat în copilărie sau în adolescență. Cântările care au rămas cu voi de-a lungul anilor, fie datorită mesajului, fie datorită a ceea ce simțeați cântându-le. Iar și iar, seară de seară în tabără, și apoi din nou cu prietenii, după aceea.

Un grup dintre noi vorbeam în seara aceasta despre cântări de tabără, și eu nu-mi puteam lua gândul de la cântarea de Crăciun Jesus Is Alive a cântărețului și compozitorului Josh Wilson. Se difuzează intens la radio anul acesta. Credeam că e o cântare nouă, dar apoi funcția de amintiri de pe Facebook mi-a scos la iveală o amintire de acum cinci ani. Prietena mea Alicia îmi arătase această cântare ca fiind noua ei preferată, acum cinci ani.

Ceea ce mă face să o asemăn cu îndrăgitele cântări de tabără de altădată este faptul că versurile ei, și felul în care o cântă Josh, sunt ca o poveste spusă în jurul unui foc de tabără. Parcă văd focul, mare înaintea noastră, încălzindu-ne fețele, trosnind și pocnind, luminându-i pe cei din cerc și aruncând umbre dincolo de el. Scântei zburând spre cer.

Cântarea lui Josh sărbătorește Pruncul născut pentru noi și, în același timp, ne îndreaptă privirea spre un Răscumpărător binecuvântat, spre un Mântuitor înviat. În timp ce scriu, pe biroul meu se află o mică figurină a Pruncului Isus. Înfășat în scutece, așa cum consemnează Scriptura (Luca 2:7). Ceva din această figurină îmi amintește și de moartea lui Isus (Ioan 19:40). Isus, ca prunc, a fost înfășat pentru scurtă vreme, înainte să crească și să devină un om cum n-a mai fost altul. După o lucrare atât de scurtă, a murit de o moarte îngrozitoare, pentru noi. Lăsați acest adevăr să vă pătrundă din nou. Trupul Lui avea să fie înfășurat în giulgiu, dar nu avea să rămână legat de el. A înviat, ieșind chiar din acele fâșii de pânză. Aleluia, Isus este viu!

Avem atât de multe la care să ne oprim și să cugetăm în acest sezon de Crăciun. Lăsați această cântare simplă să vă poarte spre întreaga măreție a tot ce a făcut Isus pentru noi, și a tot ce continuă să facă.

Închinați-vă împreună cu mine, în timp ce spunem această mare istorie într-o cântare dulce. Să ne încălzim la focul păstorilor. Să umblăm alături de Mântuitorul în timp ce ne învață despre Împărăția lui Dumnezeu. Să alergăm la mormânt și să-l găsim, în chip glorios, gol. Isus este viu!

When you think of camp songs, which ones come to mind? You remember those songs you learned as a child or teen. Those songs that stuck with you all through the years…either because of the message or how you felt singing them. Over and over, night after night at camp, and then over again with your friends after.

A group of us were talking about camp songs tonight, and I actually couldn’t keep my mind off of singer/songwriter Josh Wilson‘s Christmas song Jesus Is Alive. It’s getting major radio play this year. I thought it was a new song, and then the Facebook memories function popped up a memory of five years ago. My friend Alicia had pointed this song to me as her new favorite…five years ago.

What makes this song remind me of beloved camp songs of old is that its lyrics, and the way Josh sings it, is like telling a story around a campfire. I can just see the fire, large before us, warming our faces, popping and crackling, brightening those in the circle and casting shadows beyond. Sparks flying up to the sky.

Josh’s song celebrates that baby born for us, and his song also points us to a blessed redeemer, a risen Savior. As I write, there’s a little figure of the Christ child on my work desk. Wrapped in swaddling clothes as recorded in Scripture (Luke 2:7). Something about this figure reminds me of Jesus’ death also (John 19:40). Jesus, as an infant, was briefly swaddled before he grew up and became a man like no other. After the briefest of ministry, he died a horrific death…for us. Let that soak in again. His body would be wrapped in grave clothes but would not be bound by them. He rose to life again, right out of those burial cloths. Hallelujah, Jesus is alive!

We have so much to pause and consider this Christmas season. Allow this simple song take you into the great scope of all Jesus did for us…and continues to do.

Worship with me please as we tell this great story in sweet song. Let’s warm ourselves by the shepherds’ fire. Let’s walk with the Savior as he teaches about the Kingdom of God. Let’s run into the tomb to find it gloriously empty. Jesus Is Alive!!!
